Fire and Explosion Data
DOT Classification: |
Flammable Gas |
Flash Point: |
N/A |
Flammable Limits: |
Gas in Air: Lower 4.5%, Upper 15% (Range may vary depending upon mixture of constituent gases.) |
Extinguishing Media: |
Dry Chemical, CO2, Halon. (Dry chemical is the most effective.) |
Special Fire Fighting
Procedure: |
Evacuate area, eliminate
ignition sources, shut off source of gas supply, keep
fire downwind. Cool surroundings with water mist. Hazard
from re-ignition or explosion if flame extinguished
without stopping flow of gas or eliminating sources of
ignition. |
Unusual fire and explosion
hazard: |
Autoignition temperature in
air: 1000 - 1200ºF (Varies with gas mixture.)
Incomplete combustion yields carbon monoxide. |

Health Hazard Data
TLV: |
See Section 2 |
Effects of Overexposure: |
Nontoxic, non-irritating, no chronic effects. Can cause suffocation if oxygen is displaced. |

Section 6
Reactivity Data
Conditions to Avoid and Incompatibility:
Keep away from open flame and spark source. Keep away from strong oxidant.
Hazardous Decomposition Products:
CO2, PPM ammounts of SO2 and Nox. CO if starved of oxygen during combustion.
Hazardous Polymerization:

Section 7
Spill or Leak Procedure
Evacuate area, avoid sources of ignition such as flame or electrical spark. Shut off source of gas supply. Allow for ventilation. Notify Delta and Fire Department. Never use flame to detect leaks.
Section 8
Special Protection Information
Supply adequate ventilation. (If with mechanical means, use intrinsically safe air mover.) Use with properly adjusted and functioning appliances and burners.
Section 9
Special Precautions
When handling large volumes of natural gas in confined areas, utilize combustible gas monitoring systems. Follow National Electric Code Guidelines for installation of wiring and equipment. Use supplied air breathing equipment and safety lines when working in pits or enclosed areas which may contain natural gas.
